Dubai new Human Trafficking destination, says NAPTIP

Dubai new Human Trafficking destination, says NAPTIP. The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has revealed that Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), has emerged as the preferred destination for individuals subjected to human trafficking. Mr. Nduka Nwanwenne, the Zonal Commander of NAPTIP’s Benin Zonal Command, shared this information during a three-day awareness program on human trafficking held in Benin.

Nwanwenne elaborated that departing from the conventional method of traffickers transporting victims by land to their intended destinations, victims are now being transported by air.

“This is because the human traffickers have stepped up their game, and the destination of choice for victims of human trafficking was now Dubai.

“Human Trafficking is not abating in the country, because traffickers make so much money from their victims, so they take it as a business.

“The traffickers are now also concentrating on rural areas for recruitment of their victims”, he said.

According to Segun Sanwo, the spokesperson for the A-TIPSOM team in Nigeria, the organization holds the belief that the foundation for tackling human trafficking lies in prevention. Sanwo emphasized that raising awareness also plays a pivotal role in the battle against human trafficking, yet she stressed that the responsibility of combating this menace ultimately falls on individuals.
